WITNESSES were today being sought by police following two rapes in the county.
In the first incident, a 14-year-old girl was raped in Swindon.
The incident took place after walking a short distance with her teenaged attacker in Pinehurst.
And an anonymous caller has contacted police with information after a 22-year-old woman was raped in a Chippenham graveyard hours later.
The Swindon girl was with a group of friends in the Hillary Close and Crossways Avenue area when she met a man thought to be aged about 17.
The two walked along Hillary Close where, the girl told police afterwards, the attack happened at 8.45pm on Friday.
The man is white and wore a dark baseball cap, a grey hooded top and dark jeans or jogging bottoms. One of his eyebrows is pierced.
Swindon police say he left the scene on what the girl described as an old, dark-coloured mountain bike which did not appear to have any suspension. There is no suggestion that the offence is linked to any other. The Chippenham woman was attacked in the grounds of St. Andrew's Church near to the Market Place between between 11.30pm on Friday night and the early hours of Saturday morning.
An anonymous caller contacted police about the attack over the weekend, but the details of the call are yet to be revealed.
Officers confirmed that the woman suffered injuries in the attack but would not specify their extent. She was however, able to give a description of her attacker, who was a white male, aged 20-25, over six feet tall with a muscular build and dark shaved hair with a long fringe which was brushed forward.
DC Jo Spencer from Chippenham CID is leading the inquiries into the attack.
She said: "We would very much like to hear from anyone who may have been in the vicinity of the churchyard or the Rose and Crown public house and heard a disturbance in that area late on Friday night."
Anyone with information about the Chippenham incident should telephone DC Spencer or DS Pete Chamberlain at Chippenham Police on (01249) 654455.
Witnesses to the Swindon rape are asked to come forward and contact WDC Lisa Munday on Swindon 528111 or call the confidential Crimestoppers hotline on (0800) 555 111.
