DR MARTENS: TOMMY Saunders graciously admitted the better side had won as Chippenham's unbeaten Dr Martens Premier Division away record was brought to an end by Newport County at Spytty Park.

Saunders was disappointed at the manner of the Bluebirds' 3-1 defeat, but conceded County had been good value for the three points.

"The best team definitely won,'' said Saunders, whose team have already taken excellent draws from both Tamworth and Grantham this season.

Newport had an early chance to take the lead, but Chippenham then wasted a glorious opportunity as midfielder Simon Charity raced through but failed to convert a one-on-one situation.

The Wiltshire men fell behind on the half hour as Neil Davies converted with a header from a poorly-defended free-kick.

The Bluebirds were given renewed hope as Steve Brown went through to equalise, but in the second half it all went wrong.

Andrew Thomas scored twice for Newport to end their poor start to the season.

Meanwhile, Saunders welcomed the FA Cup second qualifying round draw which has pitted his men against south coast rivals Weymouth.

Chippenham drew 1-1 with the Terras in the league earlier this season and Saunders insists it is a tough assignment for his men on September 28.

"There are no easy games , whoever you get at this stage of the competition, but we're pleased to be at home and we have to get on with it,'' said Saunders.

Corsham Town remain winless in Screwfix Division One after slipping to a 3-2 home defeat against Weston St Johns.

The home side bossed the first period and were a goal up after a quarter of an hour through Dave Kilmurray.

But Weston pulled one back shortly before the break before taking command in the second half.

Two goal pushed them into a 3-1 advantage and not even a late scrambled goal from the home side could prevent another defeat.
