A topple-tester is to be bought by Swindon Council to make sure cemetery memorials are not in danger of falling over.
The £840 device will be used as part of a full survey of Swindon Council's cemeteries. There has been concern nationally about the condition of graveside structures and the potential safety risk to the general public.
Swindon Services will make any at-risk structures safe by fencing them in and possibly laying them down. If the owner of the memorial cannot be found then Swindon Services may carry out the necessary repairs.
The cemeteries survey was due to go before Swindon Council's Community, Culture and Recreation Commission for approval tonight.
