A WROUGHTON couple will celebrate half a century of married life together at a special family get-together.
Enid, 76, and Bob Whitfield, 78, of Halifax Close, Wroughton, will mark the milestone on Friday.
They first met when they worked together at the Ernioid plastics factory in Stroud in 1952. Enid worked as a typist and Bob was a development chemist
Enid explained: "For our first date, we both went to see a show Cheltenham, it was wonderful. We were dating for about 15 months before we got married."
The couple got married on a clear September day at the Trinity Church in Stroud before heading for a short break in London for their honeymoon taking in the sights.
Enid said: "It was a lovely day, clear blue skies, but I understand it rained after we left."
The couple lived in Stroud for 22 years before moving to Beckenham in Kent, where Bob started working at the Patent Offices in London. They moved from Kent to Wroughton just over two years ago to be closer to family.
Enid and Bob have four children, two boys and two girls and have six grandsons.
Now retired, Enid now enjoys making tapestries, while Bob plays the piano and enjoys using the Internet.
