PUPILS have brightened up a new extension at Kington St Michael School by designing and making three bright new mosaic displays.

Professional mosaic maker Joanna Dewfall helped the 77 primary school pupils as they crafted the artwork.

The mosaics illustrate a child at play and each of the three classes designed one mosaic each for the extension, which is used as a cloakroom.

"We decided we needed to brighten it up for the children," said school spokesman Helen Baker.

The £13,000 extension was funded by the school's Friends group and the school won a £1,120 National Lottery grant to make the mosaics.

"This covered all the costs and we were also able ask Ms Dewfall to make another two mosaics for the entrances of the school," said Ms Baker.

"The mosaics look really lovely, and we have had a wonderful response from children and parents."
