Screwfix Premier League: Dave Godley pounced seven minutes from time to rescue a point for Devizes Town as they entertained highly-rated University outfit Team Bath on Tuesday night.
The former Chippenham man's late leveller was the least the home side deserved after creating several chances either side of the break.
Manager Ray Baverstock had seen his men pass up numerous opportunities in Saturday's 1-0 FA Cup reverse at home to Taunton, and felt his side could easily have taken three points from the clash.
Said Baverstock: "I know I'm beginning to sound like John Gorman, but we really should have won the game.
"But, at the end of the day, we've done well and I'm pleased with the point because Team Bath are a good side who will shock a few teams this season.
"The goal eventually came, but we had three or four opportunities like it in the game. We must make sure we put our chances away because they can be few and far between.
"The good thing, though, is that we are creating chances and I would be more concerned if we weren't."
Tuesday's game was Devizes' first in the league since a 2-2 draw with the same opposition on August 24, and the result means Baverstock's men are still unbeaten in the Premier Division this term.
The visitors took the lead on 25 minutes when ex-Cirencester player David Slattery dwelt on the ball for too long in midfield and lost possession.
The ball was swiftly played up to striker Caleb Kamara-Taylor, and he produced a fine finish to put Team Bath one up.
Devizes showed the kind of fighting spirit that has been typical of their early season displays and might have been ahead by the interval.
Godley, Steve Richardson and David Lloyd all squandered chances to level the score as the visitors went into the break with a slender advantage.
The home side continued to pressurise the Bath defence in the second period and were given a boost when goalscorer Kamara-Taylor was given his marching orders for kicking out at defender Andy Grange.
Baverstock pushed Richardson forward as an extra attacker and the move paid off on 83 minutes when Godley prodded the ball home from four yards following a right wing corner.
Baverstock was impressed with his side's work-rate.
He said: "We plugged away and kept our heads up and got what we deserved in the end.
"We have spirit in the side. Everyone in the team and the squad seems as though they've been playing together for two years not six weeks.
"It was good to come away from the two games against Team Bath with two points. They'll be up there and will dominate teams with their passing ability."
Baverstock's side play host to Bishop Sutton in the FA Vase second qualifying round on Saturday and travel to Odd Down in the league on Tuesday night.
He said: "The games are coming thick and fast now and that's good. We don't know too much about Bishop Sutton, but hopefully we can beat them because we want to go quite far in the competition."
