BETTER finishing in the last quarter of the game could have given Wootton Bassett all three points at Hook Norton but in the end they had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw.

Bassett boss Pete Yeardley said: "I am happy we kept another clean sheet for the second successive game and had a chance to have won the match. I think we played well and never really looked like conceding a goal."

In Division One West Purton bounced back from their defeat last week by leaders Ardley United to chalk up a 7-1 away victory over Middle Barton.

Purton looked very ordinary for the first 25 minutes but burst into life on the half-hour when a Steve Tucker cross was met by Richard Watkins for the first goal.

Ten minutes later a loose ball in the area fell to Purton defender Lee Marshall who drove in a second and a minute later Steve Tucker headed in the third after good work by Steve Avenell. One minute before the break Tucker headed in number four from a good cross by Watkins.

Soon after the interval the home side pulled a goal back through Andy Robey but back came Purton to add a fifth Tucker and Watkins setting up Eurshell Fearon to sidefoot into the net.

Parsons added a sixth with a well struck effort from the edge of the box and three minutes from time Tucker completed his hat-trick and the scoring by adding a seventh.

Shrivenham were also among the goals registering their first league victory of the season with a 5-3 away success over Clanfield.

The visitors started well but it was Clanfield who drew first blood with a strike from Osborne. Ten minutes before the break the scores were level Alex Green on target for Shrivenham.

After the interval an own goal and a strike from Sutton gave Shrivenham a 3-1 lead but the home side fought back to level the scores after some slopping defending.

Manager Dave Clauson then brought on subs Ayres and Garbutt and the pair both netted in the closing stages to give the visitors the points.

Malmesbury Vics also did well beating Witney United by 2-0 on their own ground, Alan Griffin after 55 minutes and Wilkins on 89 minutes doing the damage.
