Hellenic League: Barry Flippance hit two late goals as ten man Pewsey Vale came from behind to share the spoils with visitors Didcot Town at the Recreation Ground.

The hosts had seen Adam Stephens dismissed after conceding a penalty with 20 minutes to go, but the prolific Flippance made it four goals in three outings to deny Didcot a quick league double over Pewsey.

The visitors had triumphed 3-1 in Oxfordshire just a week previously.

Manager Don Rogers was delighted with his side's late rally. He said: "It feels just like a win in the end. We were superb in the last 20 minutes.

"We were all over them with only ten men on the park and I have nothing but praise for the players. Going two goals down with 20 minutes to play can kill you, but it went the other way for us and we could even have won it in the end. We had a free kick late on and, if Barry Flippance had any hair on his head, the ball would have hit him and gone in."

Unbeaten Didcot took the lead just past the hour mark when Ian Concannon, who bagged a brace in last week's win over Pewsey, capitalised on a mistake by goalkeeper Anthony Betterton to score. Betterton called for the ball, but was deceived by the bounce and Concannon nipped in to put the visitors in front against the run of play.

Manager Rogers introduced Craig Wall for Chris Ashurst and the substitute saw a powerful drive saved by the visiting goalkeeper Geoff Simmons.

Stephens then received his second yellow card on for a 73rd minute challenge on Dwaine Strong, and Concannon converted the spot kick to double his side's advantage.

Former Devizes striker Flippance cut Didcot's lead on 80 minutes when his deflected shot from Ross Anderson's pass deceived goalkeeper Simmons. Within a minute the home side were level, Flippance heading home a left wing cross by Sean Terry.

Rogers is delighted with the way new signings like Flippance, Terry and Nathan Holt have gelled with last season's promotion winning squad.

He said: "We have a decent team here now and I'm happy with the 14 or 15 I've got. I can't fault the effort at the moment. We'd give anyone a game now. Didcot are a decent side and will be up there at the end, but they'd have to say the same about us after Saturday."

Pewsey enter the FA Vase for the first time in their history when they travel to undefeated Screwfix Direct Premier Division side Bridgwater Town for a second qualifying round tie on Saturday. Rogers' men continue their league campaign with a trip to top of the table Yate Town on Tuesday.
