THE mother of Swindon schoolgirl, Inderjeet Bharaj, who collapsed and died of an asthma attack as she walked to an aerobics class, is planning a fundraising evening in her memory.
Balbir Bharaj and her friends are staging an evening dinner with entertainment and fantastic prizes at King Edward's Place, Wanborough, on Saturday, Oct-ober 5.
Their aim is to raise thousands of pounds for the new Great Western Hospital's respiratory ward, so other children do not die like Inderjeet.
The event will start at 7.30pm and will offer guests a traditional Indian two-course buffet, Indian dancing displays and a magician.
There will also be a raffle and auction of prizes including a trip for two to New York, a hot air balloon flight and a DVD player.
Balbir said: "So far we have been given some great prizes to raffle or auction but we would like to hear from other people with gifts to give."
She and her fellow organisers are also selling raffle tickets priced at £1 each or £5 for a book.
All money raised from the event will be doubled by British Petroleum UK and passed onto the Evolution Appeal which has been set up to buy new equipment for the new hospital which opens in November.
Inderjeet, known as Indu, was days away from her 16th birthday when she collapsed in a lane just half a mile from her Mulcaster Avenue home.
Her death came only four years after her father, Hardeep, lost an 11-month battle with cancer.
Indu, had suffered from asthma from an early age, and had undergone several bouts of hospital treatment for the condition, which was controlled by steroids.
Although her condition was always worse in cold weather, there was no warning of what was to happen on her final day.
Balbir said: "I hope that people see this article and the posters we are putting up around the town and remember my daughter before helping us to raise as much money as possible.
"This will be a great evening for a great cause."
Tickets for the event are priced at £25.
