BUDDING young interior designer Kate Simmons, from Hardenhuish School in Chippenham, has seen her work turned into reality.

Kate, 14, was the joint winner of a contest to design a bedroom for a show home at Westbury Homes' Hardenhuish Meadows development.

The other winner was another Hardenhuish School student, Alison Harvey, also l14.

The developers set the school's year nine pupils the design challenge during the summer term.

Over the summer holidays, the show home's bedroom has been transformed according to Kate's design.

The entries were judged by Angie Clark, the area sales manager for Westbury Homes; Diane Jordan, the sales negotiator for Hardenhuish Meadows and Jonathon Hooper, of Claude Hooper Interiors, who designed the show homes.

He said: "Our two favourite designs were so creative that we had to have two winners.

"Kate's design was really tactile, and her entry included lots of different fabric textures in dusky pinks and purples. Alison's entry had a Far East influence and included Japanese symbols and a very minimalist look."

The girls' designs have won them the opportunity to spend a day with Mr Hooper at his art studio.
