ACTION has been taken to stamp out illegal motorbike scrambling at Staverton Marina after complaints by residents.
West Wiltshire District Council stepped in after residents complained about the noise generated by bikers using the unofficial track.
Officers met with Staverton Parish Council, British Waterways, police and landowners to discuss what could be done.
Warning signs have now been placed in the area and access has been restricted.
Community safety officer, Pippa McVeigh, of West Wiltshire District Council said: "In the vast majority of cases, the bikers using this track did not realise it was unofficial and therefore causing a problem.
"If they persist in going there, they could be arrested for trespass on a footpath or there is scope to prosecute for creating a noise nuisance."
Council leader Bob Brice said: "This has been an excellent outcome, brought about by several organisations working together with a common aim.
"However, together with the police, we are fully prepared to take action against anyone who continues using this site for scrambling."
At a recent meeting with
residents, officers were told the situation had improved since the action was taken.
