A SOLDIER is calling on members of the public to join him on a 75-mile five-day charity walk to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee.
Commandant of Salisbury Plain Training Area, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Norrington-Davies OBE, will begin the charity walk on Monday, September 23, from Parsonage Farm, Warminster.
Under Secretary of State Dr Lewis Moonie will be joining the soldier on parts of the walk across Salisbury Plain as will Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, Sir Maurice Johnstone.
Lt Col Norrington-Davies, 53, will be using public footpaths and byways for the walk and is encouraging people to join his charity campaign.
Raising money for the Army Benevolent Fund he is using the walk to promote the 150 miles of public rights of way across the Salisbury Plain Training Area.
He said: "I want to raise awareness about the amount of access there is on Salisbury Plain.
"It will be nice to get out and about for a week, although it is quite a challenge, and will be an opportunity to see some of the parts of the training area I don't know very well."
The walk starts at 10am daily, beginning at Gore Cross on Tuesday, Everleigh Drop Zone on Wednesday, Durrington C Tank Crossing on Thursday and Chitterne Parish Hall on Friday.
