A WRESTLING event in Trowbridge has raised more than £700 for young cancer victim Charlotte Wakeham, despite two of the competitors breaking their ankles.
Rampage and Jonny the Body were taking part in a wrestling extravaganza at the Civic Hall in Trowbridge on Friday and both fell awkwardly in separate matches.
Organiser Gareth Humph-ries, from the New Gener-ation School of Wrestling, said: "We are just waiting to see if they will be alright to get back in the ring again."
The event was organised to raise funds for Charlotte's Chance of Life Fund, set up by the seven-year-old's family to help her and other child victims of cancer.
Mr Humphries said: "Apart from the accidents it went well. It was a very good event and people were brilliant.
"I think everyone tends to pull together when it is for a child."
Charlotte was given just months to live after she was diagnosed with a brain tumour in June.
She has undergone radiotherapy at the Bristol Children's Hospital and is taking a drug called chloripramine, which has been shown to slow the growth of some tumours.
She showed enough improvement for her parents, Bill and Alison, to be able to take her on a dream holiday to Disney World.
They are now hoping that she will live to see her eighth birthday in December.
Charlotte has just had a check-up at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, where doctors are very pleased with her progress. Her grandmother Wendy Bryant said: "The doctor who saw her was quite amazed at Charlotte's condition.
"The radiotherapy has worked and maybe the chloripramine is adding to that.
"However, the prognosis hasn't changed although the doctors can't put a timescale on it."
The doctors have also said that Charlotte is well enough to go back to school if she wants.
Ms Bryant said: "Her parents are leaving it entirely up to Charlotte.
"If she wants to, then she might go back for a couple of mornings a week, but she does get a bit tired."
Donations for Charlotte's Chance of Life Fund can be made through the Wiltshire Times offices at 15 Duke Street, Trowbridge.
