REVELLERS will be flocking to Trowbridge on Saturday, September 21, to see top stars from the music world take to the stage.

Eighties pop sensation Limahl, former Brookside actress Claire Sweeney and Pop Idol's Jessica Garlick are among the top attractions at the town's World Peace Day event.

Supported by the Wiltshire Times, it is the largest music event in the town for many years.

Organiser Steve Nash said: "It should be a brilliant evening, we have some great stars appearing and lots of things going on during the day as well."

Limahl shot to fame as the lead singer of New Wave group, Kajagoogoo, whose debut single, Too Shy, became a lasting hit.

He then went on to enjoy solo success with Only for Love and Neverending Story, which reached number one in 17 countries.

Claire Sweeney played Lindsay Corkhill in the Channel 4 soap Brookside for six years before hitting the big time after appearing in Celebrity Big Brother.

Stage glory was next as she took a starring role in the West End musical Chicago and last year she released her first album, Claire.

After appearing on ITV's Popstars, 21-year-old Jessica Garlick was chosen to represent the UK at this year's Eurovision song contest, where she came third.

Joining the established acts will be some rising stars including Westbury schoolgirl, Mimi, and Eden, who will perform two singles that are about to be released.

During the day there will be workshops for youngsters and activities including face-painting, bouncy castles and live music.

The event is part of the global Peace One Day that aims to promote a message of peace and harmony and it is being promoted by the town council, the county's youth service and Wiltshire Assembly of Youth.

Mr Nash said: "There will be boards all around with messages on them promoting peace. It is a world peace thing, not a war thing."

Tickets for the concert are available from Trowbridge Town Council, the tourist information centre, the Civic Hall and the Wiltshire Times.

They will also be available on the gate at a cost of £15. Souvenir programmes will be on sale for £1.
