Mike Foley admits Bath Rugby have a tough job ahead of them at Franklin's Gardens on Saturday, but is in no doubt that his team can prove equal to the task.
"Northampton have a very physical pack and they play at a fantastic pace," he said.
"The speed at which they recycle the ball is an obvious strength of theirs. It will definitely be a tough game."
Captain Danny Grewcock is likely to be missing from the starting line-up following the RFU ruling at his disciplinary hearing,
But there is definitely cause for optimism elsewhere, following the return to fitness of Olly Barkley and the good form shown by Andy Beattie and Andy Lloyd in the second row.
"Andy Lloyd returning at the weekend was a big plus for us," said Foley. "He had a good 20 minutes against Wasps and is now champing at the bit to get out there again. It's good to see.
"Andy Beattie, too, seems to get better with every match he plays. He's a big man, and carries the ball very well. And we also have the option of playing Dan Lyle in the second row.
"It's just a question of getting the balance right."
Foley also highlighted the impact new front row men Alessio Galasso and Jonathan Humphreys have had since their arrival at the club.
"Alessio is a great character, and brings a lot to the team both on and off the pitch.
"And Jonathan is a great warrior with a real never-say-die attitude which won't let us down.
"His leadership qualities will undoubtedly come to the fore for Bath Rugby this season."
