SCORES of Swindon children have been voting for their favourite story and non-fiction books at libraries across the borough.
The competition's national results will be revealed on the children's television show Blue Peter later this autumn.
In Swindon the top two fiction books chosen were JK Rowling's Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets and Jacqueline Wilson's The Story of Tracey Beaker. In the non-fiction category, Terry Deary's The Woeful Second World War was voted the favourite.
Librarian Robin Griffiths said the competition was an effective way of getting children to read more.
He said: "In total 48 story books and 13 non-fiction books were nominated Roald Dahl and Dick King-Smith both had two books listed, while Terry Deary had three of his 'horrible history' books nominated. Jacqueline Wilson is tremendously popular 11 of her books were nominated by youngsters.
