ANDY KING has watched the good, the bad and the ugly during Town's first 10 games of the campaign and admits some fans will always have him typecast as a Clint Eastwood villain.

But despite chants voicing support for Steve Coppell during Saturday's 2-0 win over Northampton on Saturday, King will not be saddling up and riding off into the Wiltshire sunset.

He said: "People singing for Steve Coppell doesn't bother me.

"I brought him here and he has made an impact. But I pick the team and I know what I am capable of as a manager.

"I thought the vast majority of the fans gave my team great support and I experienced kind words up in the stand too.

"But I suppose it's like that Clint Eastwood film. To some fans I'm the Unforgiven. But what can I do?"

Despite his determination to remain in the County Ground hot-seat, the Town boss made little attempt to hide the importance of Saturday's win.

King said: "If we had lost against Northampton there would have been a reaction that would have been difficult to live with.

"But the players demonstrated to me that they have belief in me through their performance."

Skipper Andy Gurney is also feeling positive following victory over the Cobblers.

The former Reading man was involved in a well documented bust-up with fans in midweek but he feels everyone is now pulling in the same direction.

He said: "I had expected a few boos to be honest and of course there was the odd one.

"But the crowd were really fantastic. As captain I would like to publicly thank them for that.

"They got behind all of the boys against Northampton and it's something we really appreciate. Let's all look forward now and pull together. We need the fans to help us."

Town have been drawn at home to Southend United in the first round of the LDV Vans Trophy. The match is expected to take place on Wednesday, October 23 (7.45pm).
