Fans left fuming after lookalike fails to turn up at hotel for £32 a head show.
Armed with their slinkiest underwear, Linda Everard and Rita Hammond were all set to belt out Sex Bomb.
But their singing skills were snubbed when the star of a Tom Jones tribute night failed to show at The Blunsdon House Hotel. Linda, 51, from Cheney Manor, said: "We were poised to swing our pants but he never came. It was such an anti-climax."
The enthusiastic pair intended to celebrate Rita's 61st birthday in flirtatious style on September 20. Instead they joined around 200 other disgruntled ticket holders who missed out on meeting their pop idol double.
Rita, 61, from Park North, said: "Everyone was very disappointed and we want compensation."
Fans of the veteran heartthrob paid £32 for the musical festivities, which included a four-course meal and Classic Gold disco.
As revellers finished their strawberry souffl, staff started worrying because Tom Jones imitator Phil Steed had yet to arrive.
Linda said: "After lots of wine and coffee we were all fired up for some serious singing and dancing. We had even brought our best knickers and bras to wave."
Come 10.30pm the hotel allegedly appealed for a last-minute volunteer replacement.
"They were so desperate, the manager asked in the resident bar if anyone could sing like Tom Jones," Linda added.
Faced with a deafening silence, staff announced that Mr Steed was held up in traffic related to an accident on the M4 and would not be appearing.
Downhearted Sex Bomb lovers struggled to find solace in 60s classics like Dancing Queen played by the disco DJ.
Colin and Diana Thompson attended the ill-fated event to mark their 30th wedding anniversary.
Colin, 56, from Covingham, said: "It was most unfortunate. The music played was not everyone's cup of tea and the evening turned into a bit of a damp squib."
Some people had even booked to stay the night because the party lasted into the early hours.
Norman Vincent, duty manager at Blunsdon House Hotel, said: "This is extremely unusual and we apologise profusely. Performers have always turned up on time before now. We are trying to contact Mr Steed's promoters to find out what exactly happened and will be providing some form of compensation."
