A PLAQUE to mark the work on a £3.5 million hotel and leisure complex has been laid by Wootton Bassett Mayor Peter Roberts.
He carried out the ceremony at Wiltshire Golf and Country Club, which is being re-developed to include a 50-bedroom hotel, a large swimming pool, a gym area, a bar, a restaurant and a function room.
Coun Roberts said: "I am delighted and honoured to be unveiling this plaque to commemorate the construction of this new hotel and leisure complex. It is a great step for Wootton Bassett to have a complex like that."
Eddy Shah, owner of Messenger Leisure Limited, bought the club a year ago. The company has already invested £100,000 on the golf course.
He said: "The pool is not just a hole in the ground anymore and has been cemented. We are on target, the pool should be open by January 24 - four days before my birthday and the whole complex will be completed by March.
"The complex is going to be open to the public. We always push for an affordable lifestyle so the prices are going to be kept down but the quality of the facilities kept high."
North Wiltshire District Councillors Stephen and Alison Bucknell, Toby Sturgis and Peter Doyle, also attended the event along with Ted Querzani, the club president.
