EXPLORER David Hempleman- Adams was due to set off on his record-breaking balloon flight this morning.
The Swindon-born adventurer, 45, will attempt to become the first man to fly solo across the Atlantic from west to east in a wicker basket balloon.
Hempleman-Adams has been biding his time at Allegheny County Airport in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, since September 16 after bad weather thwarted previous attempts to take off.
Once airborne, his Chase de Vere Atlantic Challenger will head towards Newfoundland. The plan is to navigate the Atlantic and land in Europe.
And the team hope that by the time the balloon reaches the west coast of Ireland they will have set new endurance, distance and duration records.
The British solo distance record stands at 2,294 km, while the British solo duration record is 132 hours.
