Wiltshire police could lose up to £3 million of Government funding, which means the force could be reduced by 100 police officers if the cuts get the go-ahead.
Chief Constable Elizabeth Neville, said the Government had a number of options all of which would have a negative impact in Wiltshire.
Ms Neville said she was formally responding to proposals to point out to the Government the real fears in their ability to maintain the services the police provide in more rural areas.
