CHILDREN are snapping up a new range of clothes designed by David Beckham.

The world famous footballer has ventured into the world of fashion design with the DB07 line.

Marks and Spencer is the sole retailer and the Swindon branch has sold more than £1,000 worth since unveiling the exclusive new range on Saturday.

The collection includes trousers, dressing gowns, pyjamas and fleeces and is aimed at people of all ages and both sexes.

Among its fans is Sara Morton, 42, from Haydon Wick, who is a sales adviser at the Regent Street store.

At less than 5ft tall, Sara was delighted to find that she could fit into the range.

She said: "I love the clothes and am wearing my son's trousers at the moment.

"I have three children aged 13, nine and six, and the clothes are ideal for all of them.

"I am having a great time modelling them."

Younger people and their parents were also impressed.

Three-year-old Emily Williams from Westlea was watched by her mother, Tracey, as she tried on the clothes.

Tracey, 30, of Stancombe Park, said: "Emily loves her clothes and is already quite into trendy stuff.

"She looks really good. I probably would buy something from the range for her at Christmas."

Another young fan was two-year-old Matthew Colsell from Hatherall Close, Stratton, who was shopping with mum Jan, 35, and granny Kenwyn Colsell.

Kenwyn, 58, said: "Matthew's dad is a mad football fan so I think Beckham's line of clothing will soon end up at home. The gear is wonderful."

The range DB07 comes from Beckham's initials and shirt number starts at £5 for a two-pack of socks.

The most expensive item is the dressing gown, which costs £28 in the larger sizes.

Leigh Brown, the childrenswear section manager at the store, said the clothing's appeal was universal, and that this accounted for its success.

She added: "David had an impact all the way through designing the clothes, so the range is unique and personal.

"The first weekend has been so successful that we are having to order new stock already.

"We think it will be very big over Christmas."

What the shop has in stock

The clothes, which are machine washable, are designed to fit ages four to 16.

On Thursday, shoppers will be able to examine a live window display, with models dressed in DB07 items on view from noon to 2pm.

Every item bought from the range comes with a special bag which can be transformed into a poster of Beckham.
