WELL done to the Lib Dems for proposing a debate on graffiti at the council. I hope they receive unanimous support from the Labour and Conservative parties for their initiative.

Graffiti in the town centre where I live is horrible, it makes the area look like a slum, so any action to clean it has to be welcomed.

But one problem at the moment is the council charging £25 to remove graffiti if it is daubed on my back wall, yet I hear little about the people using thick marker pens to write their tags having to pay for their crime. A bit of community work or cleaning up the graffiti mess would instill a bit of civic pride. And that would not do anybody any harm!

I can sympathise with students studying art who wish to have freedom to purchase marker pens, but surely any parent who wishes to encourage their child's educational studies would not hesitate for a minute to buy the pens for them?

For the sake of our housing estates, let's hope the councillors make the right decision on this proposal.
