Supermarine's Darren McCluskey had a night to forget against former side Gloucester United as the Wiltshire outfit slipped to their eighth defeat in a row.

The big defender conceded a first-half penalty and was later sent off on his return to Meadow Park as Marine were beaten 2-1.

Gloucester started well and McCluskey presented the hosts with the perfect opportunity to break the deadlock on 30 minutes when he upended an opposition forward on the half hour.

McCluskey's former teammate Chris Burns stepped up and buried the penalty just beyond Paul Titcombe.

The Tigers moved further ahead before the break when Andy Hoskins scored at the third time of asking. The forward saw his initial effort saved by Titcombe, his rebound struck the woodwork before he finally forced the ball home.

Substitute Adie Adams gave Marine a lifeline early in the second half.

The teenage midfielder, on loan from Forest Green Rovers, grabbed his third goal in two games after following in Tate Hulbert's bar-bound effort.

Then McCluskey got his marching orders just after the hour for a trip on Adie Harris. But John Murphy's side appeared inspired by the dismissal and proceeded to dominate the remainder of the game.

Hulbert, Adam Collier and Tom Jones all went close to pinching Marine a precious point, but the hosts held out under a barrage of pressure.

Marine's injury jinx struck again, as both Lea James and his replacement Gary Smart were forced to leave the field after picking up knocks.
