Tree surgeons will fell one White Willow and trim four others in Monkton Park, Chippenham.
North Wiltshire District Council discovered that urgent work was required on the trees, which line the bank of the River Avon.
Routine checks revealed one tree had lost a large limb, exposing rotten trunk. Now the tree will need to be felled to protect those who walk along the river bank in the park.
