CHIPPENHAM Town's website is the 14th best in the country, according to a poll on the non-league paper's internet site.

The top 100 list of non-league sites is compiled each week and each website is rated by taking into account content and number of hits .

The Bluebirds' site reached its highest ever position this week, ranking higher than the websites produced by a string of Nationwide Conference clubs.

Soccerlinks, the leading worldwide web directory for non-league supporters, tops the list, while sites produced by Canvey Island, St Albans City and Kingstonian feature in the top ten. Chippenham's website, www.chippenhamtownfc.co.uk, was launched by Simon Main in June 2000.

It has since received 145,000 hits from across the globe, and webmaster Main is delighted with its success.

He said: "IWe're hoping to get up into the top ten eventually.

"The number of hits has increased ever since we got into the Dr Martens League last year and sometimes we can receive 400 hits a day. Last week we had visitors from Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Japan, Iceland and Croatia among others.

"It gives fans and ex-pats a bit of information and they can use the message board. It also raises money for the club through merchandise sales."
