A LATE penalty denied Devizes their first Premier Division win since the opening day of the season at bogey side Odd Down on Tuesday evening.

Ray Baverstock's men led twice through David Lloyd and Steve Richardson but the Bath side, who defeated Devizes three times last term, fought back to secure a point.

Frontman Lloyd put the visitors in front following a corner on the half hour, but sloppy defending gave Odd Down the chance to equalise with a free header early in the second half.

Devizes then began to find their feat and deservedly went in front for the second time when substitute Dave Slattery fed Chris Copp, and the wing-back's centre was converted by Richardson.

It looked as though the big defender's fifth goal of the campaign would be enough to take all three points, but goalkeeper Callum Swann was adjudged to have fouled a home forward inside the box on 84 minutes and Nick Wilson made no mistake from the spot.

Baverstock felt his side should have come away with maximum points.

He said: "We didn't get beaten, but we are disappointed not to have won the game.

"We had a few good chances and, although Dave Godley is playing well up front, he is going through a bit of a lean patch at the moment.

"The goals we are giving away at the moment are sloppy ones as well and we need to get that sorted out as quickly as possible."

Devizes entertain league leaders Brislington on Saturday and visit Paulton Rovers on Tuesday night, kick off 7.30pm.

Said Baverstock: "Brislington will be a really tough game and we'll be looking for a clean sheet. If sides are going to score against us, we've got to make them work for it. Paulton is another difficult one and four points out of the six will do us."
