Police are appealing for people who witnessed an assault in the Market Place at 1.30am on Saturday to contact them.
A 24-year-old man told police he was punched in the face by two men. He suffered a swollen nose and cuts to his lip and ear. The attackers are described as white men, one is about 5ft 6ins with blond hair while the other is about 5ft 11ins with short dark hair. He was wearing a blue shirt and black trousers. Equipment worth a total of £38,000 was stolen from Kennet District Council's depot on the Hopton Industrial Estate in the evening of September 17. The haul included a John Deere tractor, registration J672 HMW, worth £16,000 and a mower worth £8,000. The thieves took down a chain link fence to get into the secure compound.
No objections were made by the town council to Sarsen Housing Association's planning application to demolish its existing housing at Crammer Court, Church Walk, and build 50 new homes. The application will be decided by Kennet District Council.

WEST LAVINGTON: A car wash takes place at the village hall on Saturday from 9am to 1pm to raise money to refurbish the village playground.
The town's carnival wants to start up a samba band. Anyone interested in playing or dancing in it are invited to a meeting tonight at the Lamb Inn's upstairs function room at 8pm.
