I AM sure that I am not alone in believing that our council has no idea of financial management. On the front page of Tuesday's paper was the headline: "Cuts are back... as council overspends by £800,000." Given some of the previous debacles with this council, this is no surprise.
However, I could hardly believe my eyes a few pages later when I read that they are now giving serious consideration to housing a further 260 asylum seekers in the town. Surely this will put a further burden on the overstretched budget?
Who do they expect is going to get them out of the £800,000 debt? Assuming they agree to the additional asylum seekers, where is the additional revenue to fund them going to come from? Presumably they believe that we, the council tax payers, would willingly pay even more for continued bad service, lack of resources and poor amenities that the town has, and would have no objection to them generously offering additional places for asylum seekers.
Think again. When is the next election? But then again, if we wait that long what will be left of the town?
