THE announcement that Sainsbury's is taking over the Budgen's supermarket is the most welcome news for Devizes town centre in the last ten years.
This will increase the number of people shopping in the town centre, as opposed to the other supermarket on the outskirts of town, which does not help the numbers visiting the town.
In time let's hope this new store may also boost the quality of other shops in Devizes, something which the well-published efforts by Kennet District Council have failed to do.
I hope Sainsbury's has control of the car parking free parking in Devizes!
