Were it not for public outrage about the suggested hefty hike in Devizes car park charges, the increases would have stood as an additional charge on the motorist.
It is indeed an outrage, for here we have a situation where all the employees including Kennet councillors have free parking at their place of work regardless of the time spent at the office, yet have the audacity to place an additional financial burden on the rest of us, in particular on the business fraternity.
Would they have voted thus, I wonder, if these extra charges would have affected their own salaries as it surely does for the rest of us?
Is it not a case of "I'm all right Jack," a contempt it would appear for all those they are supposed to serve the public.
As public servants they should treat the public as they would indeed treat themselves.
