DEVELOPER Foinavon claims its plan to redevelop the former Ushers brewery could be key to the regeneration of Trowbridge and will bring millions of pounds of business to the county town.

The scheme has already attracted interest from firms like Matalan and Laura Ashley which want a presence in Trowbridge but have been unable to find premises big enough.

Paul Bench, development director at Foinavon, said: "Trowbridge should be a place of which people can be proud.

"Redeveloping the Ushers site will provide the kick-start to the rejuvenation process that is so badly needed, encouraging other development and investment, providing a significant boost to the economy, bringing jobs, affordable homes and other benefits."

The firm is developing the former Ushers brewery and bottling plant sites. Foinavon has issued more drawings of its plan together with information about the economic rewards Trowbridge will reap from the redevelopment of the Ushers site.

Bristol-based planning consultants White Young Green Planning, say more than £80m of available expenditure is leaking out of Trowbridge every year to other towns.

Foinavon says its scheme could claw back £3.4m to Trowbridge and help existing businesses, through spin-off trade worth £1.1m per year.

Mr Bench said: "The scheme is the catalyst to the rejuvenation of Trowbridge."

The proposed Ushers shops are central to Foinavon's plans as they will pay for the former brewery building to be converted into homes.

The Ushers scheme would create 112 new homes bringing around 250 more people into the centre of town to live.

The plan should go before planners in October.
