SIX candidates have put their names forward to represent Westbury following the death of councillor John Annetts.
The vacant seat on Westbury Town Council is being contested by three candidates.
They are: Christine Mitchell, of Elm Grove, (Labour Party); Paul Morris, of Castle View, (Conservative); and Michelle Slade, of Alfred Street, (Liberal Demo-crat).
There are also three candidates for the Westbury with Storridge ward on the district council.
They are Russell Hawker, of Fell Road, (Conservative); Eli Manasseh, Oldfield Park, (Labour Party); Michael Pearce, New-town, (Liberal Demo-crat).
Anyone who would like a postal vote for the election has until October 9 to apply and forms can be obtained by calling (01225) 770312. Cllr Horace Prickett, the district council's service delivery portfolio holder, said: "The most common reason given for not voting is that they are unable to get to a polling booth on the day.
"Anyone can now have a postal vote if they wish, so I would urge Westbury residents to make the most of this opportunity.
"There is now no excuse for not voting."
People were shocked by the death of Cllr Annetts, 68, on July 24. He had a heart attack.
He had been a tireless campaigner for more than 16 years and was active in council matters days before his death.
His wife, Sophie, and children Tom, Richard and Helen, have organised a service of remembrance on October 18.
People who wish to remember his life are invited to the service at Westbury parish church at 7.30pm.
