MR DRINKWATER'S unsolicited eulogy (Wiltshire Times, September 20) about our present MP for Westbury misses the point.
Whatever merits Dr Murrison may have, he represents a party whose agenda and policies (such as they are) are rejected by a large majority of the voting public.
So far as I know, Dr Murrison has never spoken out against that agenda or voiced an opinion on anything controversial (where does he stand on foxhunting or the impending war on Iraq, for example?) It is on these views that he will be judged.
Yet Mr Drinkwater seems to think that it is almost treasonable for Duncan Hames, the Liberal Democrat candidate, or for any member of any other party to stand in this constituency.
Whatever happened to tolerance and democracy?
DENNIS DORNEY,
Ash Grove,
Westbury.
