MELKSHAM'S young side continued their recent good run with a well deserved win on Tuesday night.

John Cant gave the home side the lead midway through the first half with a fine solo effort which saw him beat three defenders before chipping the ball over the goalkeeper.

The visitors took advantage of sloppy Melksham defending to equalise just before the break, but Luke Jones scored the winning goal in the 65th minute.

Said manager Lardner: "It was another good performance against a very useful Backwell side. I can see us being in the top six by the end of the season."

"They are a big powerful side, but can play a bit as well and we did well to beat them."

Melksham face two more tough games in the next four days.

In-form Bridgwater are the visitors to the Conigre tomorrow and Brislington are the visitors on Tuesday night.

Bridgwater hit nine goals past Don Rogers' Pewsey Vale side in the FA Vase on Saturday and followed that by ending champions Bideford's 100 per cent record in the league with a 3-1 success on Tuesday night.

"After a slow start to the season, when we had so few games, the matches are coming thick and fast now," said Lardner.
