TWO more pupils who attended a Bradford on Avon boys' school have alleged that retired science teacher Peter Hamilton-Leggett sexually abused them.

Hamilton-Leggett, 58, was due to appear at Trowbridge Magistrates' Court yesterday to face 36 charges of child sex abuse against 11 former pupils of two private schools.

Police officers expected a hostile reception for the retired biology and chemistry teacher, who was due to arrive at court for midday.

All the alleged victims were aged between 10 and 13 at the time of the offences. They are now aged between 28 and 41.

As children, nine boys attended The Old Ride Preparatory School, in Bath Road, Bradford on Avon, which is now closed.

Two of the boys attended the Lambrook School in Bracknell, Berkshire.

Hamilton-Leggett, of Old Station Lane, Yelverton, Devon, was re-arrested by Trowbridge detectives outside the magistrates' court in Market Street on Thursday.

Quizzed at Melksham police station about the latest allegations, he was charged with four more counts of indecent assault and released on conditional bail.

Yesterday Hamilton-Leggett, who lived and worked at The Old Ride School from September 1970 to July 1974 and September 1982 to July 1985, was scheduled to appear at Trowbridge Magistrates' Court to face 36 charges; four counts of serious sexual assault, nine counts of gross indecency, 21 counts of indecent assault, one count of an attempted serious sexual assault and one count of assault with intent to commit a serious sexual assault.

The case was adjourned last Thursday to allow for the extra charges to be added before the case was committed to crown court.

CID case officer Detective Sergeant Dave Martin has received calls from ex-teachers and students at The Old Ride Preparatory School after appealing for help.

DS Martin made the public appeal as all old records of students and teachers attending the Bradford on Avon school were destroyed when it closed in 1990.

Pupils and teachers who attended The Old Ride School while Hamilton-Leggett was a teacher are being urged to come forward as they may hold information vital to the investigation.

DS Martin is also appealing for information from any former pupils who attended the Lambrook School in Bracknell, Berkshire, between September 1975 and July 1979 or The Old Mount School in Tavistock, Devon, between September 1985 and July 2001.

He is asking ex-pupils to come forward and contact him on (01225) 763101 ext 591.

The investigation began when a 40-year-old man walked into a London police station and alleged that he was abused by Hamilton-Leggett at The Old Ride School in the 1970s.
