TROWBRIDGE teenager Lewis Haldane is hoping to become the latest model off Bristol Rovers' striker production line.

The 17-year-old forward, who has been playing for Trowbridge Town this season, has won a three-year YTS place with Rovers after impressing the Bristol club during a six week trial.

And while Rovers may not be the most glamourous club in the country, they have a reputation for unearthing young strikers and selling them on for big profits to other clubs.

"For as long as I can remember it has been my ambition to be a professional footballer and I'm really looking forward to playing for Rovers," said Haldane.

"Everyone at the club has been brilliant to me and there is a great atmosphere there."

Haldane's goal scoring feats while playing youth football for Trowbridge Wanderers and Trowbridge Tigers attracted the attention of Southampton and he played for the Premiership club's youth teams before being released following a lengthy injury lay-off.

He has recovered his fitness while playing for Trowbridge and averaged a goal a game in his seven trial games for Rovers this season. He made his debut for the club's reserve team in the 1-0 defeat at Colchester on Wednesday night.

"Winning a regular place in the reserves is my main ambition this season," he said.

As a YTS trainee Haldane will train three or four times a week with Rovers and study part time at Wiltshire College, Trowbridge, where he taking a leisure and recreation course.

He is a former pupil of Paxcroft and Clarendon schools, Trowbridge.
