GOLFER Matthew Mumford has set his sights on winning the US Masters at the tender age of seven.
Matthew, from Pheasant Close, Covingham, is already well on the way to golfing greatness after hitting his first sub-100 round at his local golf course Wrag Barn a score many adult golfers would be pleased with.
And he has also reached the South West finals of the Wee Wanders competition for young golfers.
Matthew first appeared in the Advertiser a year ago when we reported that his dad Mark had placed a £50 bet at 1,000 to 1 for him to win a major tournament when he grows up.
That led to him appearing on TV show the Big Breakfast and radio station Talksport.
Mark, 32, who works at Honda, is still happy with his bet.
He said: "My money's looking good at the moment. If he can score 100 around the course at the age of seven, I've got a lot of mates who play and would struggle to hit that score."
Matthew plays every weekend and sometimes goes around the 18-hole course twice. He joined Wrag Barn when he was five and last year won the club's junior prize for commitment.
He is already regularly beating his dad and says he would rather be playing golf than doing just about anything else.
Matthew first got hooked on golf after watching it on the TV.
He said: "It just got me into it. My dad taught me how to play by buying me a plastic set of clubs.
"I definitely want to be a professional my favourite golfer is Colin Montgomerie.
"The tournament I really want to win is the US masters."
