VOLUNTEERS will spend this Satur-day planting and scattering flower seeds in a clearing of land at Hreod Burna in Cheney Manor.
The green-fingered initiative, named the Woodland Wildflower Project, is the work of members of the Great Western Community Forest, who will be joined by members of the Rodbourne Green Resi-dents' Association and British Trust for Conservation.
The Great Western Community Forest, which covers 140 square miles stretching from Wootton Bassett to Faringdon and the Downs to the Thames, will receive £15,000 over three years to cover some of the woodlands in the borough with bluebells, red campion and other wildflowers.
Heather Lilley, community education officer for the Great Western Community Forest, said: "With the involvement of younger members of the community we can start to promote better understanding of wildflowers and then, with further school and community participation, these activities will combine to develop conservation sites."
