FOOTBALL legend Tony Adams has bought a £2 million mansion in Coates, near Cirencester.

The former England and Arsenal captain is moving to the village with his girlfriend, whisky heiress Poppy Teacher, 28.

Mr Adams, 35, who became a professional footballer in 1983, retired on June 30 when his Arsenal contract expired.

He is now set to study for a sports science degree at Gloucestershire University.

"I've always felt that my education suffered because I went straight into football," Essex-born Mr Adams said in a Guardian newspaper interview in April.

Mr Adams, who was capped 66 times for England, is also famous for revealing his battle against alcohol in his autobiography, Addicted.

His new eight-bedroom home, called Dockem House, is set within five and a half acres. Guests are greeted in a large reception hall which leads to a drawing room, dining room, kitchen/breakfast room, study, conservatory, offices, laundry, cloakroom and cellar.

The grounds also house a two-bedroom cottage, workshop, office, garage, stables, paddock and tennis court.

Norma Judd, landlady of the Tunnel House Inn in Coates, said she would be delighted if he popped in.

"We don't know when he's moving here. I hope he enjoys living in Coates. It's a super village. There isn't much here, just a church and a village hall, but most people move to the country for some peace and quiet."
