TROWBRIDGE continued their good start to the season with a convincing victory in the Junior Cup.
Despite the margin of victory, Castle Cary competed well up front and made the Trowbridge pack work hard for possession.
On a day where conditions suited open rugby, Trowbridge ran the ball at every opportunity. With a stream of steady possession the Trowbridge backs were able to attack their visitors at will and scored nine of Trowbridge's 11 tries.
Scrum half Alex Hill was the home side's leading scorer with 27 points including two tries, seven conversions and a penalty.
Richard Jones, who started the game at fly half and finished at centre, had an impressive all round game scoring a hat-trick of tries.
Other try scorers were Lee McClurg (2), Adam Sullivan (2), Matthew Dowling and Mark Simpson.
In the last 10 minutes of the game Trowbridge relaxed and to their credit Castle Cary battled well and were able to score two late tries and a conversion.
Tomorrow Trowbridge entertain Swindon Colleges in their second league fixture of the season.
On Sunday Trowbridge under 19s travelled to Avon RFC for a festival and came away as winners of their age group.
Trowbridge defeated Bath, Midsomer Norton and Melksham on their way to the final, scoring 15 tries and only conceding two.
In the final Trowbridge overcame a strong Walcot team, scoring three tries without reply.
The Trowbridge team and coaches take credit for their performance, and also for all the hard work they have put in over the summer to prepare for the season.
