BATH and England star Danny Grewcock won his appeal against a five-week Rugby Football Union suspension, imposed after he was found guilty of kicking Saracens captain Kyran Bracken in a Zurich Premiership match.

Bath skipper Grewcock was suspended by a three-man RFU panel nine days ago, but he lodged an immediate protest and last night attended an appeal hearing in London.

After two hours, the panel chaired by Jeff Blackett decided to uphold Grewcock's appeal, and he is free to continue playing, beginning in Saturday's west country derby against Gloucester.

Grewcock received a ban after his dismissal in the September 8 clash with Saracens despite the initial RFU panel deciding that his action was reckless rather than intentional.

Bath though, were angered by that verdict and decided to lodge an appeal within 24 hours.

Last night's verdict is a massive boost for Grewcock, who ran the risk of possibly missing out on England's autumn Test series opener against New Zealand at Twickenham on November 9.

But by winning the appeal, his season has not been disrupted, and he can now concentrate on reviving Bath's Premiership season, which has faltered following an opening weekend Premiership victory over London Irish.

CORSHAM and Chippenham will take each other on in a mouthwatering Powergen Intermediate Cup second round clash on October 19.

Dorset & Wilts One Corsham will host their near neighbours, who are two divisions higher in South West Two East, at Lacock Road.

Elsewhere, Devizes and Swindon have been handed the ideal opportunity to progress after landing home ties.

Swindon will entertain Southern Counties North rivals Wallingford, from Oxfordshire, while Devizes will host Bath side Oldfield Old Boys, who comfortably disposed of Swindon College Old Boys in the last round.

In the Powergen Junior Vase, Supermarine have been rewarded for their epic win at Aldermaston with a home tie against Berkshire Shire Hall.

Minety must travel to Thatcham for their second round tie.
