THE PLIGHT of a Nigerian woman sentenced to death by stoning for committing adultery has moved Swindon Council to support a campaign to spare her life.
Amina Lawal, 30, will be buried up to her waist and stone until she is dead.
Led by Coun Wendy Johnson (Lib Dem, Old Town and Lawn), the motion to support a petition to save Ms Lawal received cross-party support.
Councillors have urged Swindon residents to sign an online petition, which can be found on the link below.
The campaign is organised by human rights charity Amnesty International, and unless it is a success Amina will be killed once she has weaned her eight-month-old daughter.
