Sytner has already taken on another five members of staff and is looking for five more technicians who will receive Mercedes-Benz training

Mike Fellows said: "It is anticipated that when the specially built site opens, probably in about three years, and as we expect the cars to become more and more affordable, we are bound to require more people.

"The plan is for Swindon to be the hub for the M4 businesses.

"We are now in discussions with our property people on a couple of four acre sites in the town, which would be a huge footprint with excellent capacity to park cars, service and display, including a separate area to for a Smart Centre.

"We see this as a positive step and have been encouraged by an increase in investment levels in order to move it forward.

"Mercedes are expanding their range and broadening it from being pretty well an executive type car to a wide range of family cars at an affordable price.

"What we are seeing is that the prestige marques, such as Mercedes-Benz, will in the future become the volume brands as well and that is good for us and for Swindon."

Sytner has 65 outlets in the UK, based mainly in the Midlands.

It was started by racing driver Frank Sytner who had a BMW garage some 12 years ago in Nottinham and then gathered a team of directors who grew the business to what it is now.

It was taken over by UAG which was looking for a good performing business in the UK to expand the business operation from the US and look to the future into the European market.

Frank Sytner is still on the board as non-executive chairman.
