DEVIZES struggled to a 42-20 home win over Calne, who hit back well after the previous week's 70-point cup demolition by Frome.

An early converted try put Calne ahead before flanker Nav finished off a move, Sean O'Sullivan converting to bring Devizes level.

A penalty nudged Calne ahead again but Darren Burbidge scored a try for the hosts before Calne's second penalty nudged them a point ahead.

O'Sullivan grabbed the lead with a kick of his own, then converted wing Jona Manu's try.

Manu added another and Burbidge also added a second, the conversion making it 36-13 before Calne deservedly pulled another one back.

Centre Gareth Davies scored late on to complete Devizes' victory.

Marlborough were edged out 20-19 in a friendly against Devizes 3rds.

It was the visitors who drew first blood as Nick Dobson broke loose and outstripped the defence to score under the posts and convert.

Devizes however responded immediately with their first try four minutes later after a series of rolling mauls.

Two minutes later though, Dobson was set loose again after a take and feed from Charlie Randall.

Dobson touched down between the posts again and added the conversion.

Despite a huge amount of Devizes pressure, they could find no way through, although they did land a penalty to trail 14-8 at half-time.

Dobson notched up his hat-trick in the 63rd minute, though he failed to land the conversion.

Marlborough held out against further onslaughts until a Devizes pick and drive resulted in their second try.

They added a third courtesy of an opportunist move and the coonversion proved decisive.
