WOOTTON Bassett 2nds' recent run of victories came to an end as they lost 30-15 at Frome.

Bassett competed well in the set-pieces, but could not convert pressure into points.

The only scores in the first half were two tries and a penalty from Frome and three penalties from the boot of Wootton Bassett fly-half Williams.

But with five minutes to the interval, and Bassett only trailing by four points, captain Gary Mander had to leave the field with a nasty knee injury.

Paul Zelley, who was only present to watch his propping son Gary, donned the kit to restore Bassett's numbers.

But Frome capitalised on this disorganisation and scored a further three tries of which one was converted.

The only responses were another two penalties from Williams.

Bassett 3rds borrowed three Frome players to boost their numbers and earned themselves an 8-8 draw.

Consistent pressure early in the first half by Frome forced a penalty which they converted and midway through the half they added a converted try.

Bassett were able to pull themselves out of the hole and spent the last 10 minutes of the first half camped in the Frome half.

They forced a penalty five minutes from the whistle which was converted by Walbyoff.

Good defensive work around the breakdown and better set-piece play from Bassett in the second half meant that Frome could only rarely break into the home 22.

A break from the backs was swiftly followed up by the forwards and Jack Barnet went over.
