SHOPPERS are being given the opportunity to buy quality Christmas cards and support good causes at the same time.

The Swindon Cards for Good Causes Christmas Card Shop is opening at the Pilgrim Centre in Regent Circus on October 25.

Part of a national network of more than 270 outlets, the shop will be staffed by local volunteers.

Apart from cards supporting a total of 32 charities, shoppers will be able to choose from a selection of festive goods including wrapping paper, gift tags and advent calendars.

Cancer Research, Barnado's, Help the Aged, The Samaritans and Save the Children are among the charities whose cards will be stocked.

Nationwide card sales in the shops last year netted the participating charities more than £4.5 million.

This figure represented at least 81p in every £1 spent at Cards for Good Causes shops, with the rest covering the cost of running the shops themselves.

The Swindon shop will open on weekdays from 10am until 4pm and on Saturdays from 10am until 2.30pm, and will finally close on December 18.
