YOUNGSTERS from a Swindon dance group are polishing up their performances ahead of a major dance competition over the weekend.
More than 40 members of the Swindon Dance Company are set to take part in the finals of the Mardi Gras Challenge to be held at the Sadlers Wells Theatre in London.
Usually the 25 junior and 20 senior members, taught by Bobbie Tomlinson, would have to qualify through a series of heats.
But a performance staged by the school at the theatre earlier in the year won them the right to go straight through to the finals.
Each troupe that enters the 2002 Challenge will be asked to incorporate a minimum of three set disciplines into their choreographed routines chosen from tap, modern, ballet, street, national, jazz and musical theatre.
Bobbie said: "The children, many of whom are under nine, were ecstatic to hear that we had made it through to the finals."
