THE world famous Moscow State Circus now features a brand new show, with a 35-strong cast, many of whom are performing on our shores for the first time.

The new production includes the Roubstov troupe an 11-strong group who delight in thrusting themselves 20 feet into the air the Averushkine Clowns, the Akhtiamovs trapeze artists and the world famous Goussein Khamdoulaev, the highest indoor wire walker in the world.

A legend in his native Russia, Goussein, 49, comes from generations of wire walkers and learned his craft under his father.

Performing since the age of 10, he perfected his technique with the legendary Volschanksy troupe.

Interpreted by his son Vagif, 29, he said: "Performing is my life. But it is not just about wire walking. I have to be an acrobat and a juggler too.

Relaxing over a cup of tea back at his trailer with his wife and son, Goussein told of the dangers involved in wire walking.

"Working in Argentina 29 years ago, my wife was due to give birth to Vagif on her birthday. But in a performance I slipped on a wire and fell eight metres.

"I ended up in hospital with two broken arms, three broken ribs and concussion and my wife didn't get to enjoy a birthday party!"

Despite the dangers, Goussein says he will walk the wire for as long as he possibly can.

"My teacher didn't stop walking the wire until he was 66 so I am happy to keep going for as long as I can."

Goussein will be performing his trademark somersaults 25 feet above the ring floor all this week.
