At the time when the new hospital was on the drawing board, a large number of people in Swindon (the council tax payers), including doctors and nurses, suggested there should be a greater number of beds and wards and larger car parking facilities than those that were proposed.
This was to take account of the still rapidly expanding population and demands from the surrounding areas, including the M4 with its ever growing traffic and predicted higher accident rate.
This was, of course, ignored by the 'expert planners' at the time.
Their eyes have now, it seems belatedly, partially opened and an extension is to be provided, albeit insufficient.
I am also given to understand that parking spaces will be at a premium meaning that those visiting the new hospital will be required to use a park-and-ride facility.
These are just other examples of Swindon's lack of proper planning and not heeding the voices of the people.
Should not the 'Great' now be removed from the title so that it is simply referred to as the Western Hospital (at least it might not be associated with Swindon then!)
